McCabes is excited to present a rare reunion of The Balancing Act. Originally formed in 1984, the L.A. based Balancing Act was built around acoustic guitars, distinctive vocal harmonies and intelligent, quirky songs. Though the band forged its sound around acoustic-based songs, don’t look for a typical folk-rock, singer/songwriter affair — the members influences ranged from folk to punk to free jazz. Songwriter/vocalist Jeff Davis, multi-instrumentalist Willie Aron, bassist Steve Wagner and percussionist Robert Blackmon, employ touches of atonality and rhythmic twists, along with the catchy songcraft that was at the heart of all their records. The band is also featuring drummer Michael Urbano (Lyndsey Buckingham, Cracker, Sheryl Crow) for this special show. The Balancing Act are back with old favorites and new songs from their forthcoming release.
Gary Calamar is known around town as a popular radio DJ (The SoCal Sound and KCRW) and award winning Music Supervisor (Six Feet Under , 3 Body Problem…). He is also a fine songwriter. His first release “You Are What You Listen To” was released on Atlantic Records, he co-wrote “Boot and Rally” performed by Iggy Pop, and he continues to write and record rocking, heartfelt and witty songs. His Imaginary Friends for this show are Willie Aron and Mike Randle. Gary’s new single release is the raw, modern garage rocker “Distractions” .
