PROCLAIMING THE BLUES with LAWRENCE LEBO 

Critically acclaimed independent recording artist Lawrence Lebo will share her blues chops. Students will learn blues singing techniques from shouts, to growls, to moans in this hands-on performance workshop. At each class, students will get to sing the blues accompanied by a blues instrumentalist. The series will end with a concert showcase in our concert hall, backed by a live blues band. A down-home good time is promised for all who attend. Showcase Finale will be at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, March 7th.

This class is limited to 15 students. Pre-enrollment is highly recommended.

STAGE SINGING & CONCERT SHOWCASE 

All aspects, from technique to stage presence and delivery, with Sue Fink, who has taught everyone from Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys to back-up vocalists for Aretha Franklin and Luther Vandross. Singers and writers welcome. The class ends with a videotaped live showcase in our concert hall. Some extra costs may be incurred for the show. Please call (310) 397-3193 for more info.

VOCAL TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP 

Get your voice in shape while overcoming performance fear. Learn vocal exercises and techniques to give you more range, flexibility and endurance, and apply what you learn to all songs. May be repeated for further technique, or just more fun. Please call (310) 397-3193 for more info.

HOW TO SING BLUEGRASS 

Tony "Jarfly" Griffin is an experienced vocal instructor who has sung and played bluegrass since 1971, beginning in Knoxville, TN. He subsequently played throughout Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, and has been based in Riverside, CA, since 1990. In this two-hour workshop, Jarfly covers:

  • How bluegrass singing is similar to — and different from — folk, blues, country and other singing styles
  • Examples of authentic bluegrass lead and harmony singing
  • How to easily construct bluegrass harmonies
